The Monrovia Days Community Festival is nearly here to celebrate the city’s 139th birthday.
The annual festivities run May 15-18, starting with a Western-themed parade Thursday at 7 p.m. that will include special guests, local scholars and champions from the Monrovia schools and many community groups and organizations.
Throughout the days leading up to the festival, crews and staff will be visible around Library Park and on Myrtle Avenue working to set up Old Town Monrovia, where the festival takes place.
From Friday to Sunday, festivalgoers can enjoy live music, game booths and carnival rides. On Saturday and Sunday the festival will feature the Monrovia Historical Preservation Group’s “Monrovia Days of Yesteryear” exhibit, along with performances by local students and Centre Stage.
The Merengue Bakery Pie Eating Contest offers the chance for individuals and teams to win cash prizes from $50 to $300. Team entries are currently being accepted — for more information and to download an application, visit the Monrovia Days website.
Wristbands are on sale and can be purchased online or at the Community Center, 119 W. Palm Ave. Early-bird pricing ends at 11:59 p.m. on Thursday when the price increases at midnight Friday.
More information and updates on the festival are at its Instagram account.
City Manager Dylan Feik said daily schedules, event highlights, parking information and more information on the event would be available on the city’s website ahead of the festival next week.
