Monrovia Old Town report: Nothing to do this weekend…

I beg to differ. While not in Old Town, there is a Grand Opening celebration coming up that I do not want you to miss. The Monrovia Historical Museum is presenting two new exhibits that showcase two extremely important attributes of Monrovia: our fire department, Then & Now, and architecture. These exhibits are so well done and such a terrific addition to our museum. This event is family-friendly, filled with lots of fun, and a wonderful way to instill an appreciation of the richness of our history in your children. There will be snacks, donuts from our favorite Helms Bakery truck and its distinguished driver, beverages, and even ice cream. Please join us on May 7 from 4 to 7 p.m., at 742 E. Lemon Ave. (Recreation Park). Admission is free and you are all cordially invited.

To continue celebrating our beloved fire department, grab your family and your appetite and celebrate Fire Service Day on Saturday, May 10, from 7 to 11 a.m. at Fire Station 101 at 141 E. Lemon Ave. A delicious breakfast, fun activities, live music, raffles, displays, and live demonstrations all make for a super fun day. I can’t believe I haven’t been to one in all the years I’ve lived in Monrovia. I am so excited to take my favorite littles this year. Tickets, at $8, will be sold at the event, and all proceeds will benefit the Monrovia Fire Explorers.

The news this morning gave a 60% chance of rain this weekend. We have some pretty great events that are sending out positive vibes for clear skies and great attendance. The first is brought to you by the Kiwanis Club of Monrovia: This Saturday, May 3, from 2 to 8 p.m., don’t miss out on the Cornhole Competition. This event is 21 and over. Single player price is $45 and $80 for two. Food and drinks are included in the ticket price. There will be music, drawings, giveaways, and cash prizes for the top three cornhole teams. This friendly and fun competition will be located at Bowden Development, at 212 W. Foothill Blvd., and all proceeds go to the Kiwanis scholarship and youth programs. It’s a great time you won’t want to miss.

Next on the list is the annual MOHPG Historic Homes Tour. This 41st annual tour will be on Sunday, May 4, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. You have until May 2 to buy your tickets at a reduced price. You can buy your tickets at Charlie’s House or online at ww.mohpg.org. If you have never attended, I highly recommend that you do. Each house on the tour is carefully chosen to highlight the historic architecture and style of the home. There are docents at each home to guide you through the home, pointing out all the beautiful details of the property. These homes are just spectacular.

I love this time of year. The weather, the wonderful events put on by the city and staff. It has been so much fun to attend so many fun events like the photo shoot with the Easter Bunny, the Wine Walk, the Easter Egg Hunt (that was basically an Eggstravaganza!), the 15th Annual Neighborhood MAP Conference. All events were seamless, despite Mother Nature. The organization from city staff is always superb and I honestly sat back and watched them in awe a few times. We are really lucky to have such a talented and dedicated team in place to help make Monrovia so wonderful… such a “destination.” It was also great to see so many people out enjoying these events. They all had such a great turnout. I was proud to be there, that’s for sure. So many reasons to love Monrovia. See you next week for more updates and info on Monrovia’s birthday! I mean birthYAY!!
