City officials have invited the community to a meeting next week on the proposed Riverside Adventure Park and mixed-use Town Center development in the Northside area.

The project has the potential to revitalize the Northside and bring unique outdoor amenities to the city, officials said.

The city and Adrenaline Sports Resorts Collaborative are negotiating a deal to construct the proposed adventure park and mixed-use development, located north of Highway 60 between Columbia Avenue to the south, Orange Street to the east, Main Street to the west and Garner Road to the north.

The public meeting led by city officials and and ASRC representatives is set for April 19 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Springbrook Clubhouse, 1011 Orange St.

“This is a great opportunity for community members to learn more about this potential project and engage with the city and the developers,” Mayor Patricia Lock Dawson said in a statement.

The City Council voted unanimously Feb. 25 to negotiate exclusively with ASRC. Officials said the collaborative’s proposal provides “an excellent opportunity to build upon the goals of the Northside Specific Plan,” which the council approved in 2020 “after years of community input and outreach.”

ASRC along with Riverside-based Overland Development Company propose to spend $200 million propose to spend $200 million on the project, according to the city.

The proposed 85-acre Riverside Adventure Center features a heavily landscaped public park that connects to Reid Park and has plans for free access to biking and hiking trails, climbing, play areas and open space. For a fee that’s discounted for Riverside residents, visitors to the center could visit aquatic recreation facilities, including a whitewater rafting course, wave lagoon with a surf park and boathouse, zip-line and rope courses, sport climbing walls and an amphitheater.

The 41-acre, mixed-use town center has plans for a 45,000-square-foot grocery store, 360,000 square feet of retail, restaurant and office space, a 91,500-square-foot hotel and 722 multifamily residential units with a 25% minimum designated for affordable housing units.

Adrenaline Sports Resorts Collaborative has delivered public and private developments and designed programming for the U.S. National Whitewater Center in Charlotte, North Carolina, Riversport in Oklahoma City and Montgomery Whitewater in Alabama.
