Authorities continued searching Wednesday for a suspect who fatally shot a man inside or near a residence in Arcadia in what police initially said could be a home invasion, but further investigation determined the alleged assailant knew the 61-year-old victim.
Arcadia Police Department officers responded around 6:26 p.m. Tuesday to the 100 block of Woodlawn Lane, west of Santa Anita Avenue and Foothills Middle School.
The victim was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to Lt. Steven De Jong from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
Investigators recovered a gun inside the residence, but it was not immediately clear if it was the firearm used in the shooting, according to published reports.
Deputies searched the neighborhood and the nearby hillside for the suspect into the early morning hours on Wednesday.
The sheriff’s department will assist Arcadia police with the homicide investigation, according to the LASD.
Authorities reported April 1 that the victim’s wife and son were also present at the time of the shooting and were unharmed.
“This was not a random act of violence, the suspect was known to the victim,” according to a statement from the city of Arcadia. “As this was an isolated incident, there is no threat to the community.”
The LA County Sheriff’s Department has identified Zehao Lu, a 41-year-old, Chinese National, as the suspect in the homicide. Detectives have exhausted all leads and are seeking the public’s help in locating Lu, officials said.
Anyone with information about the shooting was asked to call the sheriff’s Homicide Bureau, 323-890-5500. To submit anonymous tips, call Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477 or visit lacrimestoppers.org.
