Pasadena announces fall, Halloween events throughout October

Pasadena has a lineup of fall and Halloween events throughout this month “for family-fun during the spooky season,” the city announced Friday.

These upcoming events by the Pasadena Public Library and the Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department are for all ages unless indicated.

Pumpkin Patch Dive-InSaturday, Oct. 191-4 p.m. at Honorable John J. Kennedy Pool, 1081 N. Fair Oaks Ave.

The pumpkin patch dive-in invites youth up to 17 years old to dive into the pool to retrieve a pumpkin, then decorate it. The event is free and features music, treats and photo opportunities. Art supplies are provided. Online registration is at CityOfPasadena.net/Reserve.

Dive-in times by age group are:

  • Ages 5 and under, 1-1:45 p.m.
  • Ages 6-12, 2-2:45 p.m.
  • Ages 13-17, 3-3:45 p.m.

Spoooooky Beads! – Oct. 19, 3 p.m. at Santa Catalina Branch Library, 999 E. Washington Blvd.

This is “an afternoon of spooky melty beady crafts! Make a Jack ‘O Lantern magnet and maybe even a spooky skull!” organizers exclaimed.

Hastings Halloween Not-So-Spooky Storytime – Wednesday, Oct. 23
, 4:30 p.m. at Hastings Branch Library, 3325 E. Orange Grove Blvd.

The story-reading event for ages 0-7 will start with “not-so-scary stories and fun songs,” organizers said. Then attendees can join a parade around the library to show off their costumes. The afternoon culminates with a Halloween craft.

Creepy Halloween Slime Time – Thursday, Oct. 24, 4 p.m. at Santa Catalina Branch Library, 999 E. Washington Blvd.

Participants make their own creepy slime just in time for Halloween.

Room on the Broom Scavenger Hunt Saturday, Oct. 26 and Oct. 28-31 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Jefferson Branch Library, 1500 E. Villa St.

“The witch is making a special brew and needs your help collecting the ingredients,” organizers said. “Come, find the ingredients at Jefferson Branch Library anytime between Saturday, Oct. 26 and Thursday, Oct. 31. Then take home your very own witch’s brew!” The event was inspired by the children’s picture book, “Room on the Broom” by Julia Donaldson, organizers said. 

Fall Festival – Oct. 26, 3-6 p.m. at Victory Park, 2575 Paloma St.

The free annual Fall Festival features family-friendly activities that include costume contests, carnival games, live entertainment, free food and more. The Pasadena Public Health Department will offer flu vaccines at the event from 3-5 p.m.

Clash of the Zombies at Mount Olympus – Tuesday, Oct. 29, 3:30 p.m. at La Pintoresca Branch Library, 1355 N. Raymond Ave.

This one is an “epic battle between zombies and mythological beasts! Come in to pick your side and dress up to battle for greatness!” organizers said. “We’ll record a fun movie to remember all the action.” The library will provide the materials for the costumes. To sign up, call 626-744-7268.

Halloween Preschool Storytime & ParadeWednesday, Oct. 30, 10:30 am. at Santa Catalina Branch Library, 999 E. Washington Blvd.

Boo! Join us for Halloween stories, show off your awesome costume in a fun parade through the library, and then make a craft! Best for children ages 3-5 and their caregivers.

Día de los Muertos Friday, Nov. 1, 5-9 p.m. at Villa Parke Community Center, 363 E. Villa St.

Friends and neighbors can gather at Villa Parke to celebrate the centuries-old holiday with dance performances, arts and crafts, food vendors and “ofrendas,” altars commemorating the lives of the dead.
