San Bernardino County’s 10th annual Clear the Shelters event features free pet adoptions at the Big Bear and Devore animal shelters through Sept. 10.
The Animals aRe First Fund, or ARFF, is covering adoption fees for dogs and cats adopted during the monthlong campaign spearheaded by nationwide NBC and Telemundo stations. The media outlets spread the word about local animal shelters and rescue services in an effort to find homes for shelter pets.
Last year, the campaign helped 168 animals in San Bernardino County shelters find homes, officials reported.
According to Shelter Animals Count, a website to which the county reports data, 2,789 cats and 4,671 dogs were in county shelters this year.
More information about pets available for adoption is at animalcare.sbcounty.gov/pets or available by calling 800-472-5609.
