NBC4/Telemundo renew `Clear The Shelters’ Pet-adoption drive

NBC4 and Telemundo began their annual Clear the Shelters event Monday, beginning a month-long campaign aimed at encouraging adoptions from animal shelters and rescue organizations.

The campaign also encourages financial donations to help support shelters and rescue groups, with information on making such gifts available at ClearTheSheltersFund.org.

“We are pleased to bring NBC4 and Telemundo 52 Clear The Shelters to Southern California for the eighth year and harness the collective power of our stations to drive public awareness surrounding pet adoption and help alleviate the impact on local animal shelters,” Todd Mokhtari, president and general manager of Telemundo 52 and NBC4, said in a statement.

Throughout the month, the stations will present reports on adoption efforts along with features on available pets. The effort also highlights virtual adoptions available through WeRescue, which allows people to search for pets online, ask questions and submit adoption applications.

Campaign organizers noted that some shelters are still maintaining COVID-19 restrictions on in-person visitation.

Since the program began in 2015, the national campaign has led to more than 700,000 pet adoptions, organizers said.
