Corona is in the midst of a massive street repair project that intends to rehab 210 stretches of road in the city.

Construction work on the Citywide Street Pavement Rehabilitation Project began in January with completion expected by July and “includes rehabilitation of approximately 94 lane-miles of local and major streets,” officials said, adding that motorists should heed no-parking and street-work warning signs between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. weekdays.

Street work that involves the front or is within immediate proximity of a school will be performed on weekends.

“In some cases, city concrete repairs may involve lowering the existing grade to fix road and sidewalk tripping hazards or gutter water flow issues,” officials said. “In some cases, city concrete repairs may involve lowering the existing grade to fix road and sidewalk tripping hazards or gutter water flow issues. Performing these repairs per the City of Corona Standard may result in artificial turf disturbance.”

All American Asphalt, the contractor performing the street repairs, will restore damaged artificial turf to its original condition, according to Corona officials.

During construction area residents and visitors can expect restricted on-street parking and restricted access to driveways while crews are working or during “cure of the concrete,” which takes about eight hours, officials said. Road crews will remove and replace curb ramps, sidewalks, curbs and gutters.

Traffic delays were expected, officials have asked residents to turn off irrigation systems during repairs.

All American Asphalt will time its road repairs to not coincide with a street’s regular trash collection days.

The total project cost is over $9.86 million, with just under $3.8 million coming from the state, according to a City Council staff report.

Adrian Soto, the All American Asphalt on-site foreman, is available to answer questions about the project at 909-208-9294, as are Corona contract inspectors Tommy Russell, 951-207-8918, and Eddie Davalos, 951-578-0163, or Corona Public Works, 951-736-2266.
