Quarterback Patrick Mahomes will be honored with the traditional post-Super Bowl parade at Disneyland for the second consecutive year Monday, one day after being selected as the MVP of the Kansas City Chiefs’ 25-22 overtime victory over the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LVIII.
The parade is set to begin at 2 p.m. on Main Street, U.S.A., then continue through Disneyland, the theme park announced Sunday night.
Following the parade, Mahomes will spend the afternoon with family and friends experiencing the park’s most popular attractions and interacting with Disney characters, a park spokeswoman said.
This will be the third time Mahomes has been honored at a post-Super Bowl parade at a Disney theme park. He was honored at Disneyland Feb. 13, 2023, one day after helping the Chiefs overcome a 10-point halftime deficit in a 38- 35 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LVII in Glendale, Arizona and was selected as MVP.
Mahomes was honored at Walt Disney World Resort in 2020 after being selected as the MVP of Kansas City’s 31-20 victory over San Francisco in Super Bowl LIV, which was played at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida.
The “I’m going to Disneyland” commercial and parade began in 1987 and featured New York Giants quarterback Phil Simms after he was chosen the MVP of Super Bowl XXI, which was played at the Rose Bowl. The latest version of the commercial will air on major television networks and social media sites nationwide in English and Spanish.
On Feb. 6, 2013, when he was a 17-year-old junior at Whitehouse High School in Whitehouse, Texas, Mahomes tweeted, “I bet it feels amazing to be the quarterback who says `I’m going to Disney World’ after winning the Super Bowl #Qbs,” three days after Joe Flacco uttered the phrase following the Baltimore Ravens’ 34-31 victory over the 49ers in Super Bowl XLVII.
Mahomes completed 34 of 46 passes for 333 yards and two touchdowns, including the 3-yard game-winner to Mecole Hardman, 14 minutes, 57 seconds into overtime to end the NFL’s longest championship game, Sunday in Paradise, Nevada.
Kansas City again had to overcome a 10-point deficit.
Mahomes joins five-time winner Tom Brady and three-time winner Joe Montana as the only players with at least three Super Bowl MVP awards.
