A man who allegedly stabbed a woman with a sword in the Mid-Wilshire area of Los Angeles was in custody Wednesday, and two more stabbings occurred at a Los Feliz high school.
The attack in Mid-Wilshire occurred about 11:30 p.m. Tuesday in the 1200 block of South Victoria Avenue, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
Eric Herrera, 23, was arrested and booked on suspicion of attempted murder, the LAPD reported. He was being held on $100,000 bail, police said.
The woman, in her 40s, was taken to a hospital in stable condition, police said. Witnesses said the woman’s dog was apparently stabbed and killed in the attack, KTLA5 reported.
Officers were sent to the location on a report that an assault with a deadly weapon was in progress.
“Upon officers’ arrival, they observed the suspect walking in the middle of the street holding a sword,” police said in a statement.
“Officers attempted to de-escalate the situation and gave the suspect verbal commands to put the weapon down. The suspect refused to cooperate with the officers’ commands as he approached officers with sword in hand.
“The officers utilized less-lethal force and a taser was deployed,” police said. “The suspect was taken into custody without further incident.”
According to police, the woman suffered “numerous lacerations to her arm from the suspect’s sword.”
“The officers quickly rendered aid and applied a tourniquet to the victim’s arm,” police said.
Anyone with information on the crime was urged to call detectives at 213-922-8235, or 877-LAPD-247. Tipsters may also call Crime Stoppers at 800-222- TIPS.
