An employee at a construction site who was killed while apparently unloading heavy equipment from a truck in the South Los Angeles area was identified by county authorities Thursday.

Firefighters were sent to the 1400 block of West 81st Street about 9:45 a.m. Monday, the Los Angeles Fire Department reported.

Amairani Villa, 23, apparently was unloading a “skid steer loader” from the truck when he became trapped beneath it, the LAFD reported.

A skid steer loader is an item of industrial equipment with hydraulic lifting arms, often used in grading projects.

Villa’s city of residence was not immediately available.

Cal-OSHA was notified, and the circumstances of the death were under investigation.
