Around $3.7 million in funding for three homeless services projects in Los Angeles backed by Adam Schiff, D-Burbank, was passed by the House of Representatives Thursday.
The bills, part of the first tranche of government funding bills, still have to pass the Senate.
The funding would benefit the YWCA of Glendale and Pasadena, the Center in Hollywood and the Hollywood Food Coalition. Schiff requested nearly $15.4 million in funding for 15 projects encompassing homelessness support, employment, public safety, public health and education. According to Schiff’s office, funding for the remaining projects is expected to come before the House in the coming weeks.
“It is an honor to work with so many wonderful organizations in my district that are dedicated to helping unhoused Californians get the resources and support they need,” Schiff said. “And the federal government must do everything within its power to support the great work that they do.
“These funds will help these organizations greatly expand their capacity to serve those most in need, and I will push hard for their passage in the Senate,” he said.
The funds would allot:
— $2.2 million for the YWCA of Glendale and Pasadena to improve and repair the campus and expand domestic violence services;
— $750,000 for the Center in Hollywood to build a second location for its services to assist unhoused individuals;
— $750,000 for the Hollywood Food Coalition to build a community hub providing meals and services for unhoused and low-income individuals.
