Hey SoCal! This week, the Academy Awards announced this year’s Oscars contenders. And the nominees are… not Gaga. But if you’ve been snubbing current events the way the Academy snubbed Mother Monster, don’t sweat it. Mike Ciriaco is bringing it back to your brain with this week’s Deja News.

On Monday, protesting teachers planned a work slow down.

Teachers at the ABC Unified School District, unhappy with the results of ongoing contract negotiations, are planning a “work slowdown” Monday.

Ray Gaer, president of the ABC Federation of Teachers, told City News Service on Sunday that “the teachers and nurses of ABC will be participating in a general slowdown of work. There are clearly members that would like to participate in a stronger labor action; however, the ABC Federation of Teachers would like to create only the necessary amount of pressure on the ABC School Board members to encourage them to take another look at the value of their employees.”

The main issue appears to be teacher pay, with union officials saying they’ve worked without a contract for two years, while the district has spent money on various campus improvements.

A Fire Chief arrested for impersonating a police officer.

The assistant chief of the La Habra Heights Fire Department was arrested Thursday after an investigation by the LA County Sheriff’s Public Corruption Unit found he allegedly unlawfully detained an unknown number of people.

Timothy Peel allegedly used a white 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD pickup truck equipped with lights and a siren to conduct traffic stops, according to Deputy Alejandra Parra of the Sheriff’s Information Bureau.

The 34-year-old Peel was arrested at his home in the 15000 block of Danbrook Drive in Whittier and booked into the jail at the Norwalk Sheriff’s Station on felony charges including impersonating a peace officer and false imprisonment, Parra said.

Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County discovered evolution information within fossils fragments.

A study released Monday by the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County found fragmentary fossils provide reliable information on the evolution of species.

The study, led by Hank Woolley, a graduate student-in-residence at the museum’s Dinosaur Institute, examined incomplete fossils and sought to discover which species they came from, what were the organism’s closest evolutionary relatives at the time and how the ancient organisms relate to organisms alive in the modern day.
