Hey SoCal! Over the weekend, Måneskin rocked out on SNL. But if Beggin’ has been bouncing around your brain all week, you may have missed some important news. Don’t sweat it, cuz Mike Ciriaco is bringing it back to your brain with this week’s Deja News.

An LA art director is suing Nirvana for their use of a smiley face he designed.

The company that controls Nirvana’s copyrights has hit back at a Los Angeles art director who is claiming in federal court that he designed a smiley face logo the grunge band has been using on merchandise for 30 years, according to court papers obtained Tuesday.

Robert Fisher, a former art director at Geffen/UMG Records, is an intervenor in a 2018 lawsuit in which Nirvana LLC is suing fashion designer Marc Jacobs for allegedly copying the happy face on clothing in a collection called Bootleg Redux Grunge.

A high speed train linking Los Angeles and Burbank has been approved.

The California High-Speed Rail Authority approved a final environmental impact report Thursday for a planned 14-mile stretch of the project between Burbank and Los Angeles, bringing the region closer to high-speed train service meant to one day connect the Los Angeles area with San Francisco.

With the board clearing the way for the Burbank to Los Angeles section, nearly 300 miles of the project’s 500 mile Phase 1 alignment from San Francisco to Los Angeles/Anaheim has been approved, according to the authority.

“Today’s approval represents a historic milestone and brings us closer to providing the first high-speed rail system in the United States,” said Authority CEO Brian Kelly.

Wearable technology is a top fitness trend of 2022.

Exercise does a body good. So does sleep. Research indicates that physical activity and sleep contribute to a healthy immune system, which is critical in the ongoing battle with COVID-19.

With more people turning to their smartwatch or fitness tracker to monitor exercise and sleep quality, it’s not surprising that more than 4,500 health and fitness pros surveyed by the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) identified wearable tech as the new top trend in fitness for 2022. ACSM released the survey results today in the article “Worldwide Survey of Fitness Trends for 2022,” published in the January/February issue of ACSM’s Health & Fitness Journal.

We’ll be bringing it back to your brain next week with more Deja News. And for weekend social suggestions hit up our newest Hey SoCalendar. Stay connected, SoCal.
