‘The Hall of Final Ruin’ is scheduled to make its West Coast premiere at Ophelia’s Jump in Upland, Calif., on March 12.
The opening date of this play has been moved to March instead of the originally scheduled Feb. 12 due to the concerns regarding the surge of the Omicron variant.
Led by an all-female cast, this dark comedy western will hold previews from March 9-11.
The production officially opens on March 12 at 8 p.m. and will last until April 10.
‘The Hall of Final Ruin’ follows the ‘madrina’ of 19th century Santa Fe who would like to die a good Catholic death and be buried in her beloved church, La Parrochia. In order to earn her way into Heaven, the gambler must orchestrate a final, high-stakes card game in which all is both lost and won.
This will be the inaugural production of Ophelia’s Jump Productions’ 10th Anniversary Season.
“Those who share a fascination with the intersection of whimsy and the disturbing, who sense the ties that bind the present to the past, and who elevate the colloquial, the pastoral through their own work, will understand the disjointed planes I try to connect,” said playwright Kelly McBurnette-Andronicos.
McBurnette-Andronicos is a graduate of the University of New Mexico. She is also the winner of the Southern Playwrights Competition and the Renaissance Theatrerworks Brink Award.
The production is directed by Beatrice Casagran. She co-founded Ophelia’s Jump Productions in 2012 and is currently the company’s artistic director. Casagran also serves as the board vice president of the Theatrical Producers League of Los Angeles.
The cast includes Cynthia Sophia Alvarez, Jennifer Bobiwash, Candida Celaya, Toni Lynd, Brissa Ramirez and Janette Valenzo.
The admission price for previews is $20. Admission on Thursdays will be $28, with a $30 price for Fridays-Sundays. The cost for children (ages 10-12) will be $22. The production is described as not suitable for children under age 10.
