A man was barricaded in Montebello Friday, and authorities were working to take him into custody.

Officers were sent to a business on the 400 Block of Washington Boulevard about 3:50 a.m. regarding a burglary alarm, according to the City of Montebello. When officers arrived, they saw a man inside who tired to exit through the back door but retreated back into the business when he saw police positioned outside.

As officers entered the business, they recovered a gune and heard the man in the crawl space between the ceiling and the roof. It was not immediately known if the man was armed with another weapon.

Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department was assisting Montebello police. Sheriff’s Special Enforcement Bureau personnel were sent to the scene.

All west and eastbound traffic on Washington Boulevard between Bluff Road and Carob Way has been closed, according to a statement from the city.

The incident was continuing about six hours afterward.
