Police seek suspect who sexually assaulted UCLA student in her apartment

Authorities Thursday were looking for a man who sexually assaulted a female UCLA student as she slept in her apartment near the campus.

The crime occurred about 4 a.m. Aug. 27 in the 11000 block of Strathmore Drive, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

“The suspect … entered a bedroom where one of the female residents was sleeping and sexually assaulted her as she slept,” an LAPD statement said. “The victim awoke and confronted the suspect, who ran from the apartment and fled the area in a vehicle that was parked nearby.”

The vehicle was described as a gray, late-model four-door Ford Fusion.

At a news conference on Wednesday, police released a composite drawing of the man, described as white or Hispanic, between 30-40 years old, about 5 feet, 10 inches tall, with a medium build. He had a close-cropped beard.

There was no obvious sign of forced entry into the apartment, where three other women were also asleep at the time, LAPD Detective Eric Crosson told the Los Angeles Times.

Crosson said the victim remained calm and provided details about the man who attacked her so that an artist could produce the sketch.

Anyone with information about the case was urged to contact Detective Lesley Perkins at 213-473-0447, or by email at 38466@lapd.online. Anonymous tips can be called to Crime Stoppers at 800-222-TIPS. To report an anonymous tip online, go lacrimestoppers.org.
