A man who was pushing a disabled vehicle was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver Wednesday on a Long Beach street.

The crash occurred at about 3:45 a.m. on Artesia Boulevard at Butler Avenue near the Long Beach (710) Freeway overpass, according to Brandon Fahey, a spokesman with the Long Beach Police Department.

The victim was pushing the disabled vehicle from the rear while the female driver steered when the suspect’s vehicle crashed into him and the disabled vehicle and fled the scene, Fahey said.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. Paramedics took the female driver to a hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

The ages of the victims were not immediately available.

“Officers located a possible suspect vehicle in an adjacent neighborhood,” Fahey said.

The investigation was ongoing.
