A man was hospitalized in critical condition Wednesday, and whoever shot him as he was driving through a Long Beach neighborhood remained at large.
The shooting occurred just before midnight Tuesday in the 1000 block of Gaviota Avenue, according to the Long Beach Police Department’s Brandon Fahey.
“Upon arrival, officers located evidence indicating a shooting had occurred, including casings and two parked, unoccupied vehicles struck by gunfire,” Fahey said.
The victim was found at a nearby hospital, he said. The man told police he was driving down Gaviota Avenue with two adult passengers when a male suspect approached his vehicle on foot and shot him.
“One of the passengers took control of the vehicle and drove the victim to the hospital, where he was in critical but stable condition,” Fahey said.
No other injuries were reported, and the shooting was under investigation as gang-related, he said.
Anyone with information on the case was urged to call detectives at 562-570-7244, or Crime Stoppers at 800-222-TIPS. To submit an anonymous tip online go to lacrimestoppers.org.
