Officers in Long Beach Sunday arrested a man inside his vehicle, in connection with the shooting death of a man on Saturday, authorities announced.
Ernesto Contreras, 43, was arrested at about 4:50 a.m. in the 800 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue on suspicion of murder and was being held in lieu of $2 million bail at the Long Beach City Jail, the Long Beach Police Department reported.
Contreras, a resident of Long Beach, is suspected of exchanging words with a 34-year-old Long Beach man on Saturday and then shooting the man, before fleeing on foot.
Police were dispatched to the scene in the 1000 block of East Anaheim Street a little after 2 p.m. Saturday. The victim later died from his gunshot wound at an area hospital.
Police said they were investigating the shooting as possibly being gang-related. Homicide detectives urged anyone with information regarding the shooting to call them at 562-570-7244.
