A 68-year-old Huntington Beach bicyclist who was struck and killed by a suspected drunk driver was identified Sunday by the Orange County coroner.

John Crouch of Huntington Beach was attempting to cross Pacific Coast Highway at First Street against a traffic signal when he was struck by a 2007 silver Toyota Yaris about 1:30 p.m. Thursday, according to Huntington Beach Police Department spokeswoman Jennifer Carey and the coroner’s office.

Crouch was rushed in critical condition to UC Irvine Medical Center in Orange, and he died about an hour later at the hospital, the coroner’s office reported.

The driver — a 23-year-old man from Bloomington, whose name has not yet been released — was booked on suspicion of driving under the influence, Carey said.
