A 68-year-old Huntington Beach man riding his bicycle was struck and killed by a suspected intoxicated driver Thursday.

The victim, whose name was not immediately released, was attempting to cross Pacific Coast Highway at First Street against a traffic signal when he was struck by a 2007 silver Toyota Yaris about 1:30 p.m., said Huntington Beach Police Department spokeswoman Jennifer Carey.

The victim was rushed in critical condition to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, Carey said.

The driver — a 23-year-old man from Bloomington, whose name was not released — was booked on suspicion of driving under the influence, Carey said.
