The coroner today released the name of the body-armor-clad man shot to death by police in Hollywood on Saturday.
Richard Solitro was 34 years old, and the coroner’s office said his city of residence was unknown.
NBC4 reported that Solitro was a long-term guest at the Quality Inn Hotel on La Brea Avenue and that his family lived in Rhode Island.
Police continued their investigation into the fatal shooting Solitro, who was wearing body armor when he allegedly rammed a squad car on Sunset Boulevard in Hollywood and approached officers with his right hand behind his back and counted down from three before moving his arm — leading officers to open fire and kill him.
Authorities also said Sunday they have yet to recover any weapon from the suspect, and detectives were still interviewing witnesses and collecting evidence.
The shooting occurred at 2:37 p.m. Saturday at Sunset Boulevard and Fairfax Avenue, said Officer Rosario Cervantes of the LAPD‘s Media Relations Section.
Officers were en route to a radio call with their lights and sirens on when a car pulled in front of them, stopped suddenly and backed into the patrol car, police said.
The man’s car bore decals spelling out messages including “New world order,” “Women Rule” and “Cancel all Bibles,” according to media video from the scene.
Police said officers had activated their body-worn cameras, which captured video of the shooting.
