Pasadena Media and content partner Innovate Pasadena wins a 2021 Western Access Video Excellence, or WAVE, Award from the Alliance for Community Media Western Region in the category of Underserved Voices. The “Innovate Pasadena Presents” episode, featuring deaf NASA engineer Johanna Lucht, was produced by Pasadena Media Head of Community Development and Innovate Pasadena Vice President Aaron B. Wheeler and hosted and co-produced by Innovate Pasadena Marketing and Event Manager Ka-Yun Lau.

The “Innovate Pasadena Presents” TV series features professionals impacting the ecosystem of innovation in arts, design, media, technology, science, astronomy, and entrepreneurship.

The interview hosted by Ka-Yun Lau, who is also deaf, focused on the life of Lucht, NASA’s first deaf engineer to carry out an active role in a NASA control center during a crewed research flight. The interview was conducted completely in American Sign Language, yet broadcast and live-streamed with captioning and voiceover for the hearing audience.

“We at Pasadena Media are very proud of being chosen to receive a video excellence award for Underserved Voices by our peers. We strive to be inclusive and to serve all of our diverse community. Our focus has always been television for the community, by the community,” said George Falaradau, executive director CEO.

County. Viewers can also stream the program live or video-on-demand at pasadenamedia.org, via the free Pasadena Media app for Roku, Amazon Fire TV, and Apple TV devices, and on Pasadena Media’s social media platforms.
