Variety salutes stars in platforms from stand-ups to podcasts and sitcoms. Known collectively as Chad Goes Deep, the Orange County-raised “activists” have mastered the art of melding the socially conscious with the supremely hilarious, doing it all with a So Cal party bro vibe that recalls Sean Penn’s Spicoli. Over the past few years, bonding over a shared “sense of positivity that we wanted to impart to the world,” Kroeger and Parr have created and starred in a series of YouTube videos. They engage in various acts of civic duty, from petitioning the San Clemente City Council to erect a Paul Walker statue to fighting for the rights of students to hold house parties at U. of Delaware.
