The City of Arcadia, in coordination with the Bobcat Fire Unified Command, is lifting the mandatory evacuation order for all residents north of Elkins Ave. and east of Santa Anita Ave. beginning at 4 p.m. Wednesday. Residents will not be able to return before 4 p.m. All residents in the area are advised to be on alert as spot fires and uncertain weather conditions have the potential to change fire conditions.
Residents will be asked to provide a valid ID upon returning to the area. The Arcadia Police Department will be at ingress points along the evacuation zone to assist residents in returning home, in addition to providing additional patrols in the area throughout the evening. Nonresidents will not be allowed to transit the area.
There are many hazards that may exist when returning to your home after a wildfire. These hazards can include fire ash, damaged utilities, as well as hazardous materials. To protect yourself from these hazards, it is important to utilize personal protective equipment that can include breathing protection (N-95 rated respirators), protective clothing, gloves, and boots, as well as eye/face protection.
Fire crews worked overnight to protect the foothill neighborhoods of Arcadia. The Bobcat Fire made its way into the Chantry Flat area above Arcadia and approached Wilderness Park. Although the fire burned the hillside above the park, the park was not damaged. The fire is continuing to burn westward through the Angeles National Forest along with spotting in nearby canyons. No structures in Arcadia have been impacted. The fire has grown to over 44,000 acres and is 3% contained.
The Arcadia Fire Department will continue to monitor the situation and will provide updates as conditions change.
