Louisiana artist Karen La Beau’s solo exhibition, Gurlfriendology: A Celebration of Women, to be on display at the Southern University Museum of Art at Shreveport

Time to celebrate women and everything that comes from being a woman in form of art.

Ladd Creative Group is pleased to announce Louisiana artist Karen La Beau’s solo exhibition, “Gurlfriendology: A Celebration of Women”, will be on display at the Southern University Museum of Art at Shreveport. The exhibition will be from March 1 – March 31 with the opening reception being held on Wednesday, March 1, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

With March being Women’s History Month, La Beau thought it only fitting to celebrate women in her second solo exhibition.

“Why women some may ask.” said La Beau. “We are strong, beautiful and resourceful. I wanted to accentuate the camaraderie between women. Most women find their strength from their bonding time with their girlfriends, sisters and mothers. I have strived to show women in their most positive light: women empowering other women or mentoring our future women or simply enjoying life.”

La Beau is a self-taught, third generation artist, New Orleans, La. native who now resides in Shreveport, La. She began drawing at the age of six and began painting professionally in 2007. In 2012, La Beau was honored at the North Louisiana-Multicultural Center as a woman artist in NWLA; in 2015 she was selected by International Artist; Nick Cave to be one of six artists who were awarded an artist residency for his 2015-2016 project, “As Is” in Shreveport, LA. In January of 2016, Karen La Beau was voted one of three top local favorite visual artists in Northwest Louisiana.
