SGV Choral Company Presents ‘A Night at the Opera’ in Monrovia
The award-winning San Gabriel Valley Choral Company (SGVCC)invites the public to attend a far-ranging romp through the annals of the operaticrepertory in their classically-themed concert of opera choruses, arias, andscenes on Saturday, March 21, 7:30 p.m. at historic St. Luke’s Episcopal Churchin Monrovia.
The concert will traverse nations and centuries, from HenryPurcell’s intimate Baroque chamber opera “Dido and Aeneas”to the Romanticism of Verdi’s “Va,pensiero” with a little Mozart, Gilbert & Sullivan, and Benjamin Brittenthrown in.
SGVCC has been bringing stunning choral music to the community of Monrovia and surrounding cities since 1995.
These selections will be conducted by SGVCC Artistic DirectorAlexandra Grabarchuk, and Associate Artistic Director David Rentz. Grabarchukis director of choral activities at Whittier College. Her wide range ofinterests has lent its flavors to the musical selections she makes for SGVCC.She shares her conducting and rehearsal assignments with Rentz, associateorofessor of music at Chaffey College and adjunct professor of music andsupervisor of the graduate conducting program at Claremont Graduate University.
SGVCC has, for the past two seasons, been accompanied by the pianist Deborah DeGrado. She is a collaborative artist specializing in rehearsal accompaniment and performance and holds a bachelor of music degree in applied piano performance from Biola University.
Tickets are $20 for general admission, $15 for seniors and students, and $5 for children under 12. Advance tickets purchased online at sgvccsingers.org by March 20 are eligible for a five dollar discount. Tickets will also be available at the door.
