Over Town Brewing Celebrates Anniversary
BySusan Motander
It has been almost a year since Ryan McKay and Carlos Plazola opened Over Town Brewing Company, Monrovia’s fourth microbrewery. To celebrate their one year anniversary with a weekend filled with activities. There will be magic, music, bicycles and much more from March 13-15.
There will be special hoursfor the anniversary weekend. On Friday and Saturday, the brewery will be openfrom 1 to 11 p.m. Sunday the doors will open at 8 a.m., but the taps will notbe working until about 10 am; they will be closing at 6 p.m.
Each day there will special events for the anniversary. On Friday from 6-9 p.m. there will ‘Beer and Magic.’ (Some might argue that beer is magic in itself.) On Saturday night it will be live music with Flamenco Souls from 6-10 p.m. Earlier in the day there is a corn hole tournament from 2-5 p.m. Sunday will bring the vintage bicycles back to Over Town with a swap meet from 8 a.m. to noon, a bike ride from noon to 1 p.m. and a show from noon to 6 p.m.
There will be food trucks around all weekend. Mike’s Fat Boys will be there from 4–9 p.m. on Friday. On Saturday during the same hours it will be the So Cal Brew Wings truck. For BBQ lovers, Chief’s pop up will be there from noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday.
For those who find the idea of a brew at 10 a.m. on a Sunday morning a bit overwhelming, Carlos promises to make Micheladas, a spicy sort of Bloody Mary using beer rather than Vodka. For those less daring, Ryan suggests mixing a light brew such as Blond Melon with his new non-alcoholic hoppy sparkling water for those. This is a great way to cut the alcohol content with a lower alcohol level, but without cutting the beer flavor.
