Winter Masquerade Ball at Madeline Garden Bistro & Venue, March 7 from 6-11:30 p.m. (1030 E. Green St., Pasadena, CA 91106). Madeline Garden is hosting a Phantom of the Opera themed Winter Masquerade Ball. Cultivate: Nature Sounds & Wildlife at Descanso Gardens from 5:30–8:20 p.m. (1418 Descanso Drive, La Cañada, 91011). Nerd out on nature with talks, displays, and a special performance of “Bee Song” during a night of discovery. Tickets are $5 for members and $15 for non-members. For more information, click here.

Festival of Whales at Dana Point, March 7 at 8 a.m. – 7:30 p.m. and March 8 from 10 a.m. – 5:15 p.m. (Dana Point Harbor, CA 92629). The Dana Point Festival of Whales is two consecutive fun-filled weekends featuring a parade, street fair, art shows/sales, classic cars and boats, food, spirits/beer gardens, beach concerts, games, contests (sand sculpture, clam chowder cook-off), whale watching and educational activities. Kids Gardening and Craft Workshop at Monrovia Community Garden from 9-10:30 a.m. (303 W. Colorado Blvd., Monrovia, CA 91016). This is a great opportunity for kids to learn about vegetables, bugs and do some crafts. This event is free and open to all. For more information, click here.

Yoga and Sound, Renewal and Natural Wonder Day Retreat at Monrovia Canyon Park Cabin from 9 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. (1200 N. Canyon Blvd., Monrovia, CA 91016). Pasadena Grows: Los Angeles County Arboretum Library Tour at L.A. County Arboretum from 10:30 a.m. – noon (301 N. Baldwin Ave., Arcadia, CA 91007).Arboretum Librarian Susan Eubank will lead a tour of the library, which contains a comprehensive collection of resources on gardening, botany, California native plant life, and environmental issues. Judy Wexler at Storrier Stearns Japanese Gardens from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. (270 Arlington Drive, Pasadena, CA 91105).Celebrate spring at the garden with a jazz concert from Wexler at 2 p.m., refreshments and a silent auction. Wild & Scenic Film Festival at Sierra Madre Playhouse from 7-9:30 p.m. (87 W. Sierra Madre Blvd., Sierra Madre, CA 91024). Watch short environmental and adventure films that will help the Mono Lake Committee’s Outdoor Education Center raise funds for programs which bring underserved and at risk Los Angeles youth to the source of LA’s drinking water at Mono Lake for week-long community-building experiences in the wild outdoors.
