Since the announcement of the first case of Coronavirus, named “COVID-19,” many are wary of returning travelers and immigrants, most especially those from Asian communities.
COVID-19 was first detected in Wuhan City, Hubei Province, China. Coronavirus comes from a large family which are common from animals including: camels, cattle, cats and bats that rarely infect people. This classification of coronavirus is speculated to be related to SARS and MERS, originating from bats. It is suggested this virus emerged from a single animal reservoir.
As an outbreak hit the city of Wuhan, the source of the COVID-19 was thought to be linked to a large seafood and live animal market which suggested an animal-to-person spread before person-to-person as some patients did not have initial exposure to the market.
The virus is now widespread to surrounding and outside countries. Because of this outbreak, there have been travel advisory warnings and quarantines conducted with travelers arriving from or may have come in contact with China in order to contain the virus.
There are currently over 76,000 confirmed cases in mainland China and more than 30 cases in the United States. The virus is known to more commonly afflict the elderly and young infants.
It is recommended to practice common flu fighting methods to avoid contracting the virus.
Despite these outlined precautions, people are still fearful and project this to a community of people.
There has been a surge of people posting jokes and/or experiences during their daily activities when suddenly they notice microaggressions, or indirect remarks that discriminate against members of a marginalized group.

While the outbreak may have rooted from Wuhan, anyone can contract the coronavirus.
