The UK band Sea Girls here in LA on their first American tour sounded like a sweet way to spend a Thursday night. I figured four blokes that named their band with a nod to Nick Cave deserved a look.
Described as “indie rock,” Sea Girls is a four piece band that self released their first album in 2017. After playing every summer festival under the sun, they’ve continued to sell out shows all around the UK. They’ve since signed with Polydor Records, and have a new single and video release titled Violet.
I was excited to see a guitar band from London. The four of them stood under green and red lights. The stage had a fabric ceiling and theatre backdrop at the Hotel Cafe in Hollywood. The crowd was excited to see Sea Girls too, and not shy about it either. There were actual screaming girls in the club!

Sea Girls opened with their newly released single Violet. The single was received with a keen liking and earned the BBC’s Annie Mac’s Hottest Record In The World title. The video was directed by Michael Holyk. The band notes, “We may have songs with darkness but that doesn’t mean we can’t look to the light. “Violet” is wildly optimistic and for the video we find ourselves in an abandoned building and this time we aren’t feeling sorry for ourselves. The song is a little unhinged and so is the video.”
The singer Henry Camamile connected with the audience as they crowded the stage. Guitarist Rory Young is endless smiles and verve throughout each song. Watching Sea Girls live reveals one thing for sure, they are a super tight rock band. Their set sounded like a recorded studio session with drums by Oli Khan holding it together. Bassist Andrew Dawson sings backup while he plays his no pic bass riffs.

The audience knew all the lyrics to their 11 song set that included an acoustic guitar song and solo vocals by Camamile. Sea Girls puts out out a lot of sound. They closed the set with an incredible amount of energy with back to back songs with an encore of Call Me Out.
The two month tour started in Nottingham England and finished in Los Angeles California.
