Willy Wonka Takes the Stage at Frostig School in Pasadena

Students at Frostig School recently delivered a deliciously sweet performance of “Willy Wonka Jr.,” based on Roald Dahl’s timeless story of the world famous candy man and his quest to find an heir.

The musical follows the candy manufacturer as he stages a contest by hiding golden tickets in five of his scrumptious candy bars. The five children who find the tickets win a free tour of the Wonka factory. When young Charlie Bucket impresses Willy Wonka with his good character, the candy man reveals that the true prize is ownership of the chocolate factory and he makes Charlie his heir.

The annual spring musical is always a highlight of the Frostig school year. Nearly half the student body participates in the production as cast and crew. Drama instructor Christina Harris has a magic touch with her students as she helps them discover and develop their talents.

Frostig is a first -12th grade school that offers a full range of academic and support services for children with learning differences such as dyslexia, dyscalculia, high-functioning autism and ADHD. Frostig enrolls children who live throughout the greater Los Angeles area.

The play was funded in part by a donation from the Pasadena Showcase House for the Arts.
