Foothill Unity Center Volunteers Gather in Arcadia to Help Over 900 Local Families
Foothill Unity Center’s holiday distributions served nearly 1,000 families from the Foothill communities of Altadena, Arcadia, Azusa, Baldwin Park, Duarte, Irwindale, Monrovia, Pasadena, South Pasadena and Sierra Madre. Families received a holiday food box in addition to toy, clothing and gift items for nearly 1,300 pre-registered children.
Schoolchildren and adults gathered on the morning of Dec. 14 at Ayres Hall at the Los Angeles County Arboretum to volunteer their time. These volunteer worked together to pack nearly 1,000 holiday food boxes containing items like chicken broth, peanut butter, cans of green beans and soup, stuffing and rice. They also organized gift bags in preparation for the distribution day, which took place on Saturday. Food and toys were gathered during drives and “Holiday Angels” from local communities also helped.
Nearly 1,300 children were served with toys, clothing, and gifts as the packages were distributed on Saturday. More than 150 volunteers helped distribute 500 holiday food boxes, and gift bags during the festive occasion. The Monrovia Association of Fine Arts did craft activities with all the children during the event and services like flu shots and CPR training were available. Sena on Myrtle, a restaurant in Old Town Monrovia, gave a breakfast burrito to every person in attendance to take with them – 500 families with all their members came out to more than 2,000 burritos.
