Arcadia’s Furious Comeback Falls Just Short in Loss to Monrovia

Despite clawing their way back into the game to force overtime, the Arcadia Apaches couldn’t muster a win against a scrappy Monrovia squad on Tuesday at Arcadia High School.

By the end of the first half in this match-up between Arcadia and Monrovia boys’ basketball, it appeared the game was already done and dusted. The Wildcats had opened up a sizable 34-25 lead as they overwhelmed the Apaches with their physicality and toughness.
Monrovia’s scrappy defense bullied Arcadia into multiple turnovers, which led to easy transition points for the Wildcats. Every time an Apache maneuvered into lane, the Wildcats would collapse their defense and alter every shot attempt they could.
It was a heated battle all throughout but it seemed Arcadia was going to fold over any second. However, the Apaches quickly regrouped coming out of the locker room and rallied in the final quarter to force the game into overtime.
Arcadia held Monrovia to a mere four points in the fourth while racking up 12 crucial points of their own to keep the game alive. Unluckily for the Apaches, their effort to get back in the win column after losing back-to-back games fell short as Monrovia escaped with a slim 55-51 victory.
It was a big sigh of relief for the Wildcats being that their record still sits below .500 at 5-7. As for the Apaches, they’re still above water with a 7-5 overall record but have not found their rhythm in Pacific League action, standing in sixth place with a 1-3 record.
