This eccentric event will bring this year’s unique and strange themes to East Pasadena

Perhaps one of the most peculiar yet flamboyant events of the year will be taking place on Sunday, Nov. 18 in East Pasadena, The Doo Dah Parade.
People from all over the Los Angeles area will have the opportunity to participate and/or watch the parade as multiple creative individuals and floats trot down Colorado Boulevard. Strutting some of the most distinctive yet unusual outfits ever, viewers are in for a surprise that may leave them speechless.
The Doo Dah Parade’s history dates back to 1978, where originators including Peter Apanel, Ted Wright and Charles Finnell decided to create a satire-based celebration that is an alternative prequel to the traditional Rose Parade. For years, attendees have come dressed in absurd looks poking fun at many contemporary topics. This year, visitors can expect the same level of quirkiness that has been displayed effortlessly since the beginning.
Viewers will see the interesting and wacky lineup which includes appearances from some popular odd groups including Nut Camp, Trashion Show, The Pony Baloney Express, Radioactive Chickenheads, Bearded Ladies, Count Smokula, Partying Parrotheads, Murrugun the Mystic and the Unicorn Palace, among others. Attendees will also be able to experience Secret Santa, the Doo Dah’s take on the North Pole, which will feature holiday themed fun for all ages.
With the parade stepping off at 11 a.m., watchers are encouraged to come early and bring lawn chairs to sit back and view the madness. Several food trucks and eateries will be available along the route of the parade where people can grab a bite to eat. As always, the parade admission is free of charge and all, no matter the age, are welcome to the fun.
Once the parade is over, attendees can stick around for some after parade activities. While several after parties are occurring in the surrounding areas, The American Legion will host the official party immediately following the event. Located at 179 N. Vinedo St., parade goers can enjoy live performances by local bands, inexpensive food and drinks; a perfect way to end an iconic night.
