Arcadia PD Officer to Teach Retired Teachers About Protection and Safety
The California Retired Teachers’ Association #71 (CalRTA-SGV) luncheon meeting will take place on Friday, Oct. 12, at 11:30 a.m. at the Monrovia Community Center on 119 W. Palm Ave., Monrovia CA 91016.
This is a change of location because of renovations at the customary meeting place in Arcadia, according to CalRTA-SGV
At the meeting, members of the CalRTA-SGV will welcome Officer Mike Vercillo, Arcadia Police Department Community Services Officer to their October meeting.
Vercillo directs Crime Prevention and Community Outreach programs. He will give a presentation on information about personal protection and avoiding scams, along with explaining how residents can partner with their local law enforcement agencies to help reduce crime and stay safe.
In doing community outreach, Vercillo has implemented Arcadia’s Neighborhood Watch, National Night Out, and tours of the Arcadia Police Department’s mobile command post as well as other community outreach programs.
After graduating from California State University, Los Angeles, Vercillo went into the automotive business for some years before turning to law enforcement. In that capacity he was a reserve volunteer with the Alhambra Police Department and a Homeland Security Safety Officer for the Airport Police in Burbank. Vercillo has been with the Arcadia Police Department for twelve years, first serving as Jail Supervisor and now as the Community Affairs Officer. He and his wife have lived in Arcadia since 1967.
Some parking is available next to the Monrovia Community Center, but more ample parking is available on the street. Carpooling is encouraged. The cost of the luncheon is $13 for members and guests. Season tickets for the luncheons are also available. For reservations, please call John Gera at (626) 286-0714 by Oct. 5. The cost of the luncheon for those who pay at the door is $14.
Membership in the California Retired Teachers’ Association is open to all retired educators, as well as to current educators and to any others interested in joining this active group. Meetings always include legislative updates that affect retired teachers. CalRTA’s motto is “Your Partner in Pension Protection.”
