Twenty local kids shop with Pasadena cops for school supplies
On Aug. 24 twenty middle school students were paired-up with a Pasadena Police officer, detective or the interim chief and shopped for school essentials at the Target located at 3121 E. Colorado Blvd.
The twenty youth each received a $100 Target gift card paid for by Pasadena Rotary. This event will be Pasadena Rotary’s forth year partnering with the Pasadena Police Department fund to bring forth “Shop With a Cop.”

The Pasadena Boys and Girls Club selects deserving students who often lack the resources to purchase essentials for a successful school year. While shopping with an officer, kids often purchase common items which most people don’t even realize are a need, such as tennis shoes for PE, school supplies, clothing, and personal hygiene items. The Rotary Club is committed to fulfilling students’ needs, two dozen at a time, in a fun and engaging activity.
In addition to Pasadena Rotary’s contributions, each year the Target Corporation provides “Shop With a Cop” recipients with student goodie bags. They also dedicate Target staff to greet the kids and officers at the doors, provide extra personalized service while shopping, and dedicate event checkout lines for the students to purchase their selected items. The kids truly feel like VIPs and enjoy the opportunity to bond with an officer, many of whom participate year-after-year.
