Despite it being so early in the season, the Arcadia girls’ tennis team is already showing signs of unwavering dominance as the Apaches handily defeated La Cañada 13-5 in a nonleague bout on Monday.

“Were just at the very beginning of our season but the girls are all working hard,” said Arcadia Head Coach Ruth Lagace. “I have a lot of girls that have a lot of talent. It’s just not the three top girls, it’s a deep team.”

Arcadia was coming off a solid 12-6 victory over West Ranch on Thursday to open the season. Monday’s win over the Lancers brings them one step closer to the promise land of the CIF Southern Section State finals, where the Apaches fell short last season.

Rachelle Yang, Arcadia’s No. 1 seed, won both her matches 6-3, 6-2 while Chloe Barberi subbed on for Yang and won the third match 6-2. No. 2 seed Lauren Ko also claimed both of her matches 6-3, 6-1.

Both Yang and Ko have verbally committed to play at Division I schools in Fordham University (New York) and UC Davis, respectively.

The Apaches were just as masterful in doubles action, taking seven out of nine matches. The tandem of Angela Qiu and Sunny Ng took all three of their games with scores of 6-1, 6-0, and 6-2.

Arcadia will return home on Thursday for a match-up with the Mira Costa Mustangs (1-0).
