The Monrovia girls’ volleyball team looks to take a bite out of their competition as they head into the new school year and season.

As dominant as the Wildcats have been during the regular season, they have struggled to get over the hump in postseason play. Despite maintaining a winning record in the last few seasons, the farthest Monrovia has made it in the playoffs was the quarterfinals in 2016.

Head Coach Ashlee DiSalvo will head into her second year at Monrovia’s helm as she took the team to a 15-7 overall record in 2017. The Wildcats also finished runners-up in the Rio Hondo League with an 8-2 record behind La Cañada but were eliminated by Arcadia in the first round of CIF.

Monrovia has a 17-game schedule lined up that is littered with tough match-ups against formidable opponents.

The Wildcats’ first game is a road fixture on Aug. 14 against a familiar foe in Westridge. The Tigers were the ones who sent Monrovia home during its deep playoff run in 2016 and it will be the first time the two sides have met since then.

Monrovia will also hit the road to play Arcadia on Aug. 23 in a non-league bout.
