This summer the City of Monrovia and Oak Crest Institute of Science are joining together to create a Junior Researcher Summer Academy. Three separate sessions are planned for the program: June 25 -July 6, July 9 – July 20, and July 23 – August 3. The cost for each session is only $40 per student.

The junior researchers will be exposed to a variety of scientific fields with hands-on experiences with professional research scientists. Students will be exposed to biology, chemistry, physics, and computer science.

One proposed scenario the junior researchers might examine is that Rangers at Monrovia Canyon Park find suspicious objects near the waterfall. The objects have unusual properties. The young people, utilizing scientific reasoning and sophisticated instruments, will attempt to determine if these artifacts could be of extraterrestrial origin.

The sessions will take place at Oak Crest Institute, located at 132 W. Chestnut, from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. each day of the sessions.

For answers to questions or to register for a session, contact the Monrovia Community Center at (626) 356-8246.
