Man Charged in Police Pursuit, Carjacking Case in Pasadena

A 32-year-old man has been charged with stealing a car, carjacking another, and leading police in a pursuit, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced. Johnny Paul Siganoff (also known as John Siganoff, John Szabo and Frank Siganoff) of Phoenix, faces one felony count each for driving or taking a vehicle without consent, carjacking, assault upon a peace officer, two felony counts of attempted carjacking, and three felony counts of resisting an executive officer. The defendant pleaded not guilty and is due to return on June 25 in Department J of the Los Angeles County Superior Court, Pasadena Branch. Case GA103610 was filed on June 1.
Siganoff is charged with stealing a car from a gas station clerk in Mission Viejo on May 30, prosecutors said. The defendant later got into a crash on the 210 Freeway near Hill Avenue in Pasadena and allegedly carjacked the vehicle that was involved in the collision, prosecutors added. Later, on the 134 Freeway at Harvey Drive in Glendale, Siganoff crashed into two vehicles and reportedly tried to carjack those two vehicles before returning to the car he had previously carjacked and fled, prosecutors said. At that point, police allegedly began pursuing the defendant who then crashed into another vehicle and attempted to carjack that victim but then returned to the vehicle he was driving and fled, prosecutors added. The pursuit came to an end and the defendant was arrested after a struggle near Riverside Drive and the 134 in Burbank.
The defendant faces a possible maximum sentence of more than nine years in state prison if convicted as charged. Bail is set at $300,000. Deputy District Attorney Marlene Sanchez is the assigned prosecutor.
