No Boundaries 13, the 13th annual showcase of Pasadena Unified School District (PUSD) student art, opens March 9th from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., at First United Methodist Church (500 E. Colorado Blvd. Pasadena, CA 91101). Hundreds of artwork by K-12 students will be on view during the three days of the exhibition. The title “No Boundaries” refers to the exhibit’s objective of showcasing student artwork without limits in size or media, as well as the unlimited creative potential of students in PUSD. Pasadena Unified is an official partner of ArtNight Pasadena, the March 9 citywide free evening of art, music, and entertainment as Pasadena’s prominent arts and cultural institutions open their doors. Pasadena Opera’s The Man Who Mistook His Hat by Michael Nyman, California Institute of Technology Dabney Lounge and Gardens, March 10th from 8 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. and March 11th from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. (320 South Michigan Avenue Pasadena, CA 91106) Pasadena Opera presents The Man Who Mistook His Wife For a Hat, a chamber opera based on neurologist Dr. Oliver Sack’s 1985 best-selling book of the same name and one of his most fascinating and baffling case studies, this intimate opera invites you into the academic world of neurology. Beginning Watercolor Class Description Watercolor Workshop & Lunch is March 10th from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Lavender Marketplace & Workshop (89 Olive Ave. Sierra Madre, CA 91024). This painting workshop, to be held in our conservatory, is designed for anyone to be able to enjoy and complete a finished watercolor painting. Sonserae will be sharing the joys of water color and how wonderfully the paint, pigment and water create such beautiful patterns when it hits the paper. She will lead you on a creative step-by-step process beginning with learning about the papers, brushes, paint techniques, color theory and mixing. You will be painting a lovely ocean/beach scene. Sonserae will prepare hand-out materials so you can take them home. Please bring a notepad to write down some information and an apron to protect your clothes. This is a beginner watercolor class but all levels are welcome. All supplies are included. Instructor is Sonserae Leese; there will be a farm table lunch included halfway in-between the class. The public is invited to join the 2018 Pasadena International Film Festival (PIFF) starts March 12th all day at Laemmle Playhouse 7 (673 E. Colorado Blvd. Pasadena, CA 91101) for nine days and nights, at the Laemmle Playhouse 7. There will be more than 100 PIFF showcases entrants from 15+ countries including features, shorts, documentaries, music videos, animation and web series. Every film programming block ends with a moderated-hosted Q&A. Mix and mingle in the Laemmle’s lobby where you can have your picture taken on the red carpet, chat with the press or hob nob with the stars.
