On Saturday morning, July 8, at about 1:45 a.m., Pasadena Police Department responded to the 100 block of W. Peoria Street regarding a report of a female gunshot victim. Officers located a female in her 40’s, suffering from a single gunshot wound. Pasadena Fire Department paramedics arrived and transported the victim to a local hospital where she later succumbed to her injuries.
The victim in this incident has been identified as Katoya King, a female African-American 44 years old, and a Pasadena resident.
Pasadena Police Homicide detectives responded and commenced their investigation. During the investigation, information was developed leading to the identity of the suspect, Teretha Howard (female, 58 years old, and a Pasadena resident). Ms. Howard was arrested and booked at the Pasadena Police Department jail on Saturday evening at 7:33 p.m.
The investigation suggests both victim and suspect in this case were acquaintances involved in a dispute over a relationship.
On Wednesday, July 12, the case was presented to the District Attorney’s office. Ms. Teretha Howard was formally charged with one count of murder with gun enhancements. The bail has been set at $3,000,000.00.
