Fire and Ash Food Bowl (May 25 @ 4 p.m., Alexander’s Steakhouse 111 N. Los Robles Ave.) Alexander’s is turning up the heat and bringing in the Fire and ASH! At this al fresco dining experience, Executive Chef Matt Bata will roast an entire pig outdoors over an open flame, creating a variety of savory and mouth-watering treats from any and every piece possible. The Fire and ASH feast is a celebration for the warm relationship between farmers, chefs, and restaurants, promoting a complete use of all resources alike. $65 per person

Never one to shy away from a difficult, or even ‘taboo’ topic, there is no subject off limits. Her socially aware brand of comedy has made her both a thought leader as well as a teacher to those with open minds and open hearts.

LA Opera Concert – Mozart: Truth Through Beauty ( May 26@2 p.m., 1151 Oxford Road)Visitors can enjoy this all Mozart concert with singers from the Domingo-Colburn-Stein Young Artist program and pianist/LA Opera artist-in-residence Matthew Aucoin, as they present a musical exploration of Mozart’s unique artistic trajectory. Free with general admission, no reservations required. Seating is first come, first served. Huntington Art Gallery Loggia. Tickets may be purchased for $25 on site or online. Parking is free.

For those who don’t get out much (or at all) this is a wonderful rabbit hole to fall into as a entry back into the evils of night life. The night life ain’t no good life but it is our life after all. Come and sin, you prohibition cuties. Her band of Musicians for the nighy, Randy Woltz – Piano & Xylophone, Marquis Howell – Upright Bass, David Elsenbroich – Guitar & Banjo, Jason Fabus – C-Melody Sax. Santa Anita Bonsai Show (May 28 @ 9 a.m., 301 North Baldwin Ave.) The Santa Anita Bonsai Society will present trees trained to look like miniature forest giants. Enjoy an unforgettable day at the races all while giving back! Donate to a tremendous cause as you gain access to special trackside seating this Memorial Day, May 29! Your $5 donation includes General Admission to Santa Anita Park, a program, access to special trackside seating and walking tours to the Paddock and Winner’s Circle throughout the day. Hold These Truths (May 30 @ 8p.m., 39 South El Molino Ave.) tells the inspirational true story of civil rights hero Gordon Hirabayashi who took his fight all the way to the Supreme Court. An exceptional evening of theatrical storytelling, Ryun Yu’s brilliant solo performance has captivated audiences and sold-out shows from coast-to coast. Written by Jeanne Sakata, the play is directed by Jessica Kubzansky and stars Yu. “Holds These Truths” begins performances on Tuesday May 30, and will play through Sunday, June 25, with the official press opening on Sunday, June 4. Performance schedule is Tuesday – Friday at 8 p.m.; Saturday at 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Tickets range from $25 – $115. Running time is 90 minutes. Pasadena Playhouse announced playhouse talks post-show engagement activities after every performance of “Hold These Truths”, as part of Pasadena Playhouse’s mission as the state theater of California to bring people together to facilitate open and productive conversations with neighbors, friends and community. California Connections Academy Free Information Session (May 31 @ 6:30 p.m., 2924 W. Huntington Drive, Monrovia) California Connections Academy @ Capistrano is authorized under state law by the Capistrano Unified School District and is available to students in grades K-12 who reside in Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, and San Diego counties. The information session will provide families with an opportunity to meet with a California Connections Academy teacher, thoroughly explore the school’s program and curriculum, and learn about the enrollment process. Other topics covered include: how teachers interact with students in the virtual environment, personalized learning opportunities including options for accelerated learning and gifted programs, college preparation, socialization, the role of the parent or other Learning Coach, and the use of technology. Families unable to attend this session are encouraged to attend one of our online information sessions.
