Reader rehashes the white picket fence debate. – Courtesy photo

Dear Editor,

I not only respect but agree with the Millennials’ values, which hold the promise of making our world a better place. Yet, I’m dismayed to hear anyone describe white picket fences as “hideous,” which to me is the equivalent of irreverence towards an American icon!

A chain link fence is hideous, yes, but a white picket fence? One that surrounds a home like a tasteful frame chosen to enhance a painting? No, a well-maintained white picket fence is like a cocoon which, in its simplicity, is visually appealing, and one finds comfort within that pleasant enclosure.

Thus as of this day, I declare myself the self-appointed defender of white picket fences. May they forever continue to ornament front gardens throughout America!
