In the spirit of November and the soon approaching holidays, Skillify recognizes a local high school student to give thanks, appreciation, and recognition. Emily Quach, a senior at Arcadia High School, has discovered her passion in politics and dedicated time to serve her community through this passion, as well as other high school students. Her passion is exemplified by her agency and rigor to participate in political leadership roles both on and off her high school campus.

To gain first-hand insight into politics and further develop her professional skills outside of school, Emily spends much of her time interning for different organizations:

– As one of Skillify’s veteran interns, Emily dedicates every other weekend to supporting fellow high school students through the program.

– As a congressional intern for Congresswoman Judy Chu, Emily researches bills and grants for casework files, manages communication between constituents, and participates in various events held by the office.

– As a former intern for the Los Angeles Democratic Party, Emily organized Voter

Registration Drives and assisted staff members during monthly meetings.

– As a former Pasadena Courthouse Intern, Emily improved efficiency within the Criminal Clerk’s Office by entering over 100 felony and misdemeanor cases into an online database for staff per hour.

At Arcadia High School, Emily currently leads as:

– President of California’s YMCA Youth and Government Organization – ASB Senior Class Senator

– Speech and Debate Captain

– Mock Trials Secretary

In reflection of Emily’s accomplishments, Jennifer Tang, Student Success Manager at Skillify, and Emily’s direct mentor said, “Emily exemplifies the phrase, learn by doing. When I met Emily, like many ambitious high schoolers, she had an interest in medicine and law. In order to explore her interests, she applied to and received internship offers, which helped her focus her attention towards politics. Emily has a strong sense of agency, and showcases that a student can not only accomplish ambitious goals, but truly understand what career path fits her as an individual.”
