Ninth Best in California

Huntington Hospital has again been ranked among the top hospitals in the nation by US News & World Report. The annual US News Best Hospitals rankings recognize hospitals that excel in treating patients with the most complicated conditions.

Huntington Hospital was named the fourth “Best Hospital” in the greater Los Angeles area. The hospital was also named one of the 10 “Best Hospitals” overall in California and was ranked among the best in the country in geriatrics, gynecology (four-way tie) and neurology and neurosurgery (five-way tie).

“Being named one of the best hospitals in the country by US News & World Report is a tribute to the excellent health care and compassionate service provided by our outstanding physicians, caring nurses, professional staff, and advanced clinical programs,” said Stephen A. Ralph, president and CEO of Huntington Hospital. “We are honored to receive this recognition as we continue to provide world-class care to our community with kindness and dignity.”

Huntington Hospital was also ranked Best Regional Hospital in 13 types of care, with recognition as “High Performing” in six adult specialties – diabetes and endocrinology, gastroenterology and GI Surgery, nephrology, orthopedics, pulmonology, and urology; and in seven common adult procedures and conditions – abdominal aortic aneurysm repair, heart failure, colon cancer surgery, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), hip replacement, knee replacement, and lung cancer surgery.

“US News evaluates nearly 5,000 hospitals nationwide,” said Ben Harder, chief of health analysis at US News. “A hospital that emerged from our analysis as one of the best has much to be proud of.”

The US News Best Hospitals rankings, now in their 27th year, help guide patients to hospitals that deliver outstanding care across 25 specialties, procedures, and conditions. The Best Hospitals methodologies include objective measures such as patient survival, the number of times a given procedure is performed, infection rates, adequacy of nurse staffing, and more.

For 2016-17, 153 hospitals were ranked in at least one specialty, while 1,628 received a high-performing rating in one or more specialties, procedures, or conditions. In rankings by state and metro area, US News recognized hospitals that were high-performing across multiple areas of care.

Best Hospitals was produced by US News with RTI International, a leading research organization based in Research Triangle Park, NC.

The rankings will be published in the US News “Best Hospitals 2017” guidebook.
