Each year the mayor appoints various city councilmembers to liaison positions to the various community boards and local governmental groups. In addition, a mayor pro tem is also selected from among the other councilmembers. At the meeting on Tuesday, May 3, the council unanimously elected Alex Blackburn to fill that position for the 2016-2017 year.

When Mayor Tom Adams was elected in 2015, he announced that he would make the liaison appointments as a collaborative process with the other members of the council. Adams announced that in a special session on May 3, the council decided on those assignments. At the council meeting, the mayor announced that those assignments would be listed online the next day.

The mayor will continue as the liaison to the Chamber of Commerce, Independent Cities Association, and Joint Powers Authority, among other assignments. Crudgington and Shevlin will continue as members of the audit committee, while each serves as ex-officio members of several other boards and commissions. Spicer will continue to be involved with the work force investment board and the Gold Line Joint Powers Authority, while Blackburn will continue to serve on the board of LabLaunch, as well as serving as the liaison to the mayor’s Old Town advisory board and the San Gabriel Valley Economic Partnership.

The entire list of assignments and the alternates to each can be found at www.cityofmonrovia.org/sites/default/files/fileattachments/city_council/page/993/final_-_2016-17_city_council_assignment_listing.pdf.
