As Angeleno culture monsters, something new and shiny to one may be vintage and worn in to another. And that’s how we like it; there’s always some type of door we’d like to open, and until it does, the excitement for discovery is continuous until we pay a visit and make our grand entrance. And then mingle with friends. Watch the drink wizard make our cocktail. Then drink it. And then post about it, of course.
To help you fling that door open—both for cozy fall evenings and quite possibly a new spot you haven’t stepped your feet into yet, here are six hot spots to add to your next rounds:
R Bar – Koreatown
We know the drill on this spot but do you? In our recent, intimate event LA CANVAS held at R Bar, guests needed a sneaky password to enter the rustic, feel good spot on the corner of Irolo and 6th street in Koreatown that features private hang out nooks for serious convo with delicious libations from their bar, karaoke and live shows. Head to their Facebook page if you want the verbs for your next—or brand spanking new—visit.
Tunnel Bar – Sherman Oaks
Perched atop oyster driven seafood spot Tipple and Brine, the moody after-dinner elements Tunnel Bar hosts are one hundred percent bonafide when it comes to discovering new curated cocktails. If you opt out of dinner and want to head straight to darkened tunnel inspiration, find the doorman at Tipple and Brine—he’ll walk you up.
Der Wolfskopf – Pasadena
Looks like the perfect spot for Octoberfest mingling, doesn’t it? Well, this German-centric beer hall isn’t the half: there’s another beautiful addition to your beer cravings, and it’s a secret bar downstairs. We recommend you become a regular to know about it, or bat those eyelashes to get underground and discover privacy. So exclusive!
Break Room 86 – Koreatown
While most of us have already trampled Houston Hospitality’s Break Room 86, the events just keep getting better at this spot. If you haven’t done your walk through yet, now is the time. Alls you have to do is find the loading dock over at the spot we need a staycation at stat, The Line Hotel.
Seventy7 Lounge – Culver City
Burlesque shows and mad stiff drinks? We’ll take it any day. This no-name Culver City spot has a sign in the alley that reads “COCKTAILS” and all you have to do is find that to enter this beautifully lit, tastefully decorated cozy spot that you’ll want to spend hours at unwinding to. We hear the dancers are talented, just like the bartenders.
Jackalope – DTLA
Seven Grand knows whats up, and now we do too. For its second edition of whiskey bar hosting, Jackalope sits as a super secret addition to the mix, featuring a whiskey locker program for your favorites, serves only 3 drinks, and has instructions in English and Japanese to get in. Whoa, winning.
